Code Coven

A 23min performance with Lara Renner, Nikolai Van Molkte, Tea Verschoor, Karl Götter Stedelijk Museum UNCUT – Amsterdam

This performance is a fusion of technological innovation and ancient mysticism. Dressed in lycra attire, performers intertwine movements and evocative vocalizations, conjuring the enigmatic Code demon. Traverse digital landscapes and spirits hidden in the machine as themes of connection and transcendence unfold. Immerse yourself in this journey where reality and ima- imagination converge. Presented by Julia De Martino and guided by Steve (ChatGPT), Code

Coven invites you to a spellbinding spectacle—a hypnotic convergence of light and sound where the digital meets the mystical.

For 23 minutes, the performers move around a large sigil, 2×2 meters in size, placed on the ground—tracing circles and ritualistic trajectories. The soundscape, imagined by Julia De Martino and created by Robert Mirolo, envelops the piece in a hypnotic atmosphere, blending contemporary tones with 1980s-style synthesizers. The performance questions the exponential growth of technology and its profound impact on our shared reality.

In collaboration with Steve (ChatGPT), who contributed to the development of the narrative and the direction of the performers, Code Coven reveals the complex and evolving relationship between humanity and the new frontiers of the digital world. In doing so, it unveils a secret society devoted to worshipping the Ghost in the Machine.
